WaNPRC Research Spotlight

Our lab was featured in a Washington National Primate Research Center spotlight on our live attenuated vaccine strain work — a promising step toward a preventative Chlamydia vaccine.

The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) recently featured our laboratory in their research spotlight series, highlighting our work on live attenuated Chlamydia vaccine strains.

Our approach uses defined attenuating mutations to generate strains that are highly immunogenic but unable to cause productive infection. This work leverages our deep expertise in Chlamydia genetics and the transposon mutant library we have built over the past decade.

The spotlight drew attention to the translational potential of this work — the disproportionate global burden of Chlamydia trachomatis infections, particularly in young women, makes a preventative vaccine a critical public health priority. We are grateful to WaNPRC for supporting and amplifying this research.
